Description

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No.1, located in Yokohama, Japan, is one of the city’s leading centers for artistic creation. A historic warehouse built in 1913 and revitalized as a cultural facility, it preserves the memory and heritage of Yokohama Port while serving as an international hub for contemporary performing arts and creative practices.

Guided by the dual mission of fostering artistic creation and cultural exchange, we connect people, communities, and the wider world through the performing arts. Contemporary dance lies at the heart of our activities, making the venue a unique institution in Japan where creation, presentation, exchange, and professional development are pursued in an integrated manner.

At the core of our programme is the Yokohama Dance Collection, an international contemporary dance festival with a history of more than 30 years. The festival supports emerging artists while creating opportunities for choreographers, dancers, producers, presenters, and other professionals to meet, exchange ideas, and develop international collaborations.

In recent years, we have strengthened our engagement with international networks, particularly across Asia, working with artists and cultural organisations to foster creative dialogue and build sustainable partnerships.

Another key initiative is the Associate Choreographer Programme, through which a selected choreographer is based at the venue for a two-year term. Combining creation, presentation, audience engagement, research, and professional development, the programme supports long-term artistic practice while fostering connections between artists, citizens, and local communities.
