Description
Al Badil – L’alternative culturelle is a Tunisian organization founded in 2017 by artist Selim Ben Safia. It works to develop the national cultural landscape through youth empowerment, support for artists, and cultural decentralization.
Believing that culture is a driver of development and expression, the organization creates platforms for training, performance, and mentorship to energize cultural spaces across Tunisia.
Among its flagship projects is Hors-Lits (2014–2022), an international program that presents performances in unconventional venues, bringing artists and audiences closer together while revitalizing urban spaces.
Al Badil also organizes the Festival des Premières Chorégraphiques, which has become a national reference for discovering emerging talent in contemporary dance. The festival encourages exchanges between Tunisian artists, members of the diaspora, and Mediterranean partners.
The organization also leads training and cultural entrepreneurship initiatives such as Massari (which has trained over 100 young people in cultural project management), Safir (supporting young cultural entrepreneurs), and Tandem Amwej (Mediterranean artistic cooperation).
Through a wide network of local and international partnerships, Al Badil strengthens cultural decentralization and supports creative work, the performing arts, and the promotion of Tunisian heritage—contributing to a more open and creative society.
