Description

The Maison de la Danse, founded in 1980 as the first venue in France dedicated entirely to dance, is one of Europe’s leading institutions for choreographic creation and presentation. Located in Lyon it presents a wide range of national and international artists, from major contemporary choreographers to emerging voices. Its mission combines artistic excellence with broad public engagement, offering residencies, educational programmes, and strong support for young audiences. The venue hosts a 1,100‑seat theatre and a creation studio, and is deeply involved in developing new forms of access to dance, including extensive video resources and digital tools. As co‑director of the Biennale de la danse de Lyon, the Maison de la Danse plays a central role in the European dance ecosystem.

Under the direction of Tiago Guedes, it is expanding its activities with the forthcoming Ateliers de la Danse, a new space dedicated to artistic production, research, and community outreach. The institution remains committed to diversity, inclusion, and the circulation of contemporary dance across borders.
